parakura bay house at bentzen drive design
a truly beautiful site on a peninsular in New Zealand this was a design for a family home for retirement and entertaining.  existing olive pressing sheds were incorporated into the design where a new deck links to a new garage.

the new house sites on the edge of the site with living spaces taking in the sun and views while bedroom and private spaces look out to the olive trees that cascade down the hill to a tidal inlet.  these two conditions define the concept with separation being provided by a central glazed and light filled entrance space.

i provided design and drawings for the resource consent as well as consturction and computer renderings to determine the best site position for views and sunlight.

landscaping and building are equally important to the architecture here with decks, earth berms and swimming pool linking the buildings and creating a meandering layout. the hilly seaside italian villages were an influence here in the layout - a relevant thing give that the clients have their own olive oil business.

the materials and building design however have influences closer to home with maori nautical ideas and the new zealand indoor and outdoor living style.
